This antique basket made of woven plant fibers, originating from China, was used daily by rural communities, both for harvesting rice and for fishing activities. Its deep cylindrical shape and sturdy arched handle allowed for easy transport of goods.
Entirely handmade, it features tight and regular weaving, as well as a handle made of willow. The variations in color, the soft patina, and the traces of use bear witness to its history and give the piece a raw authenticity, dear to the wabi-sabi aesthetic.
Today, this basket naturally finds its place as a decorative object: a plant pot, storage for textiles, wood, or accessories, or simply placed as a sculptural piece. It brings an organic, understated, and timeless presence to an ethnic-inspired or minimalist interior.
